A range of bodywear for sports brand Puma called Starck Naked has been designed by Philippe Starck. The brief to GBH Design was to communicate the concept behind the garments, which are figure-hugging and have transparent panels, as well as the provocative, playful spirit of the range. The solution is a box that shows the front and back crop of either a naked male or female body, showing as much skin as is legal on a box! It was vital that the packaging leapt out from the competition on the shelf and i think that this definetely will! Rather striking, simple and pretty edgy!

You Smell
I always love clever copy when it comes to branding. It really catches the attention of a customer especially if it's a bit cheeky and amusing! Megan Cummins has designed this soap range called 'Tabula Rossa' a latin phrase for 'clean slate'. The subsequent title 'you smell' is an immediate eye-catcher. It is elegantly presented, yet is initially insulting until the reverse side of the product is read where it continues to say 'like a lemon...thanks to us!
Dog Poo

Who'd have thought to design some fancy Dog Poo bags of all things?.. Nina Dautzenberg and Andrea Gadesmann thats who! They've taken a mundane task and made it fashionable and eco-friendly. These 100% biodegradable poo bags have fun little illustrations, bright colour palette and some humerous copy. Why not!

Chocs by Number

Tokyo's 100% Chocolate Cafe sells over 56 types of chocolates (even cheese and black pepper chocolates!) They also sell chocolate pastries, chocolate drinks, chocolate ice cream and even chocolate sandwiches! The packaging really catches your eye. It's simple and bold with great use of typography and a bright, exciting colour palette. Definetely unique.

The interior of the Cafe is also worth a mention. It's very chique with a 'chocolate' covered ceiling, clean lines, woodern tables, silver flooring/walls and glass showcases. Beautifully tasty!

Durex Fantasy

Casual sex has traditionally been considered a masculine trait. Evidence shows that more and more women are enjoying 'no strings attached' sex. However many single women assume it is the man's responsibility to provide protection, and therefore do not carry a condom. Philip Skinners response was to create a range of condoms that would appeal to women and encourage them to buy their own condoms and carry one- 'because you never know'.
He has successful created this simple but very effective packaging and also cleverly used the idea in ambient media and magazine advertisements.
I really enjoy looking through Philip Skinners portfolio as he is a designer who believes that great ideas are central to graphic design and he executes his ideas very well. To see more of his work you can visit his online portfolio at this address: http://philskinner.co.uk

We want TAP!

Provokateur takes on the bottled water industry:Getting people back on to tap water might not be easy - even though many bottled waters contain just that. Branding tap water may strike you as a pointless waste of resources, but one man with an environmental conscience believes doing so could wean consumers off mineral water bottles and back on to the tap.
'People aren't buying water, they are buying brands - Evian is an effective marketing invention, so why not market tap water?' asks Joshua Blackburn, creative director of ethical brand communications and design consultancy Provokateur. See more at http://wewanttap.com
